About
Makhana (fox nuts) are the popped seeds of the water lily Euryale ferox. They are a popular fasting food during Navratri and a favourite light snack for anyone watching what they munch. These are plain and unflavoured so you can season them your way.
How to use
- Roast in 1 tsp ghee on low flame for 6–8 minutes until crisp; season with salt, pepper or chaat masala
- Cook into makhana kheer with milk, jaggery and cardamom
- Add to curries such as makhana matar or shahi makhana
- Pack a box for matches, school and office
Ingredients
Fox nuts (makhana).
Storage
Store in an airtight container to keep them crisp. If they turn soft, dry-roast for a few minutes.
